Mello
– the Event Mascot of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 –
is starting to make his presence felt as he and the Caribbean gear up
for the biggest undertaking in regional history.
Just last week, the friendly character was out and about in New York
City as officials of ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Inc. and
some of the nine Local Organising Committees (LOCs) held a joint
outreach promotion for the media and special guests.
In his first international outing, Mello seized the opportunity to go
sightseeing in the "melting pot of the world" and was spotted at
various well-known landmarks as well as meeting and greeting New
Yorkers and visitors to the Big Apple alike.
Whether it was riding the subway, hailing a trademark yellow cab,
strolling on Broadway and Wall Street or posing for photos with
officers of the New York Police Department (NYPD) and tourists, Mello
thoroughly enjoyed his packed agenda.
The next five months will be increasingly hectic for the lively mascot
as momentum builds towards cricket's premier event. He will embark on
various promotional engagements, including a tour of the nine Host
Venues across the Caribbean early next year before the tournament takes
place in March and April.
Next stop though will be India later this month for the ongoing ICC
Champions Trophy.
Look out for Mello at the Taj Mahal!
