Ramnaresh Sarwan
Ramnaresh Sarwan is
an exceptionally talented batsman, with wristy strokes and nimble foot
work. His cricket ability was recognised by both West Indies cricket
officials and fans at an early age. Sarwan became the
youngest regional first-class player ever with a first class debut
against Barbados when he was just 15 years old.
Sarwan made his Test
debut against Pakistan at Kensigton Oval, Barbados in May
2000 he remained unbeaten in both innings scoring 84 in the
first innings. After his first Test innings, 84 not out, Ted Dexter was
moved to predict a Test average of more than 50.
Sarwan has claim the number 3
batting position in the West Indies team , many belive that his
stlylish batting will be the main stay of the West Indies middle order
in the post Lara era. After 63 Tests Sarwan has accumulated
4,207 runs at an average of 39.31. He has nine test hundreds and 26
fifties in addition to his three ODI tons and 23 fifties.
Ramnaresh Sarwan was
reappointed as vice captain to Lara in May 2006 for the 2006 Digicel
home series. The appointment as vice captain plus his recent
form put him in line to succeed Brian Lara after the
2007 World Cup.
Sarwan was out of International
cricket for the majority of this year due to injury. He is now getting
back into cricket in what is a very important tournament for the West
Indies the Cricket World Cup.
It has been noted that if the
West Indies are to do well Sarwan will have to do extremely well in the
batting department.
