Chris
Gayle rich vein of form in One Day Internationals continued when he
slammed a boundary filled 101 off 79 balls to set the West Indies on
the way to victory in their first practice game in India. The West
Indies are on the Sub Continent to start their defence of the ICC
Champions Trophy which begins on October 7th.
Playing
against a local team which did not field a single International player
Gayle struck three sixs and fourteen fours, he and Runako Morton added
177 before he retired with the score on 200 for 1. Morton went on
to score 91 off 97 deliveries and Wavell Hinds chip in with 68 off 51
balls, to give the West Indies a total of 344 for 5 off 50 overs.
The
local side then struggle to 177 for six from their 50 overs but while
most of the West Indies batsmen used this opportunity to get some runs
under they belt the bowling was disappointing with 47 extras of which
35 were wides. Only Dwayne Smith with nine economical overs showed his
worth and once again establish himself as a budding allrounder.
