 Fidel
Edwards is that special bowling talent West
Indies cricket so badly needs. Short in stature, with a slinging arm
action Edwards generates genuine pace from a
bustling run to the crease. Fidel Edwards was first introduced
to Test cricket in spectacular fashion, by captain, Brian Lara, who
plucked him from obscurity after facing him in a net session in
2003. Edwards did not disappoint and in his first outing, he
produced a five-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in Jamaica and sent
tongues instantly wagging.
Edwards also had a dream debut in his first One Day International
against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2003 he bag 6 for 22 from seven overs.
Since then a couple of injuries have only allowed him to stay fit for
24 Tests and a handful of ODIs. In those 24 outings he has pocketed
just over 60 wickets and has made many a batsman uncomfortable with his
slinging action and searing pace.
Fidel Edwards has brought a
refreshing dimension to the West Indies bowling attack, with deliveries
clocked between 90 and 95 miles per hour. He is fiery, in the Jeff
Thomson mould, bowling with a round-arm action he generates genuine
pace and is able to make the ball leave the batsman.
