Daren Powell

Daren Powell is a slimly built right arm fast bowler with slippery pace and outswing he made his debuted for the West Indies in 2002 against New Zealand.  He later confess that he did not think he was ready for Test cricket at that time even though he managed two wickets for 41 runs. Powell is capable of bowling in the lower 90's; however injury and inconsistency saw him on the sidelines as a number of young pacers made it into the West Indies team.

The dispute between players with Cable & Wireless contracts and the West Indies cricket board, which resulted in seven players being unavailable for the first Test against South Africa in 2005 Digicel home series, along with with 31 wickets at the regional first class level and gutsy batting down the order, reopened the door for Powell.

Daren Powell was later selected to tour Sri Lanka for the 2005 away series and the 2006 New Zealand series. Injury and poor form again saw Powell out of the team for the 2006 Digicel home series against India.

Powell has been in the best form of his bowling career going to the 2007 ICC cricket World Cup. A lot is expected of him in a West Indies bowling attack that is not expected to bowl teams out in 50 overs.
