Daren Ganga
Daren
Ganga is probable the most technical sound
opening batsman in the West Indies, he is stylish with a
strong bias towards playing in the V. However most West Indian fans
have characterised him as good for only 20 or 30 runs. Ganga was first
selected for West Indies senior duty at the tender age of 19 on the
ill-fated tour of South Africa in 1999. This tour was marred by controversy
and turned out to be a disater not only for the West Indies but also
for Ganga.
Having played most of his 38 test matches away from the West Indies on
difficult overseas tours. Ganga rebounded with too delightful centuries
in his first test series at home against world champs Australia in
2003. However on the 2004-5 series against South Africa he
fell back into his old routine of getting out after doing all the hard
work and was again drop from the team.
After missing out on 10 Tests, Ganga was selected for the 2005-06 tour
to New Zealand, and was the second highest run scorer in the three-Test
fixture. He looked good for a third Test hundred in
Auckland but a rash stroke on 95 ruined all
that Ganga had work hard for.
Ganga was retain after a
reasonable series in New Zealand to partner Chris Gayle in the Digicel
2006 home series. After a shaky start in the first and second Test
where Ganga seem to be fitting in to his normal mode of getting out
after all the hard work was finish. Ganga showed maturity and character
in the third Test to fashion a magnificant third Test century of a 135
in the first innings and 60 notout in the second innings.
